JOURNAL: DIRT RACERS
Dirt track racers run the course at South Carolina's Cherokee Speedway, a proving ground for many race car drivers hoping to make it big on the asphalt tracks of the NASCAR circuit. Dirt track drivers are ordinary folks with day jobs as plumbers, mechanics, and insurance salesmen, and they tinker with do-it-yourself cars in their backyards. On race night these weekend warriors are not afraid of banging fenders or slamming into walls. In their rivalry, tempers can sometimes flare and, although the prize money is small, victory is sweet.
