Tigers of the Snow
Despite our fascination with the white shark, we know very little about its life beneath the sea. Now off a large elephant seal rookery at Ano Nuevo Island, California, that is about to change. Each winter hundreds of pups are born in the colony. After fattening up for a month the pups head out to sea to feed. Intercepting the young seals are hungry great whites. Two scientists, Peter Klimley and Burney Le Boeuf have joined forces to gain a better understanding of this interplay between shark and elephant seal. Shark expert, Peter Klimley will be attaching location transmitters on the great whites to track the animals as they hunt. Burney Le Boeuf, who has studied seals for thirty years, will use the same technology to see how the seals evade the sharks. Both will have the advantage of Crittercam technology, seeing first hand where the sharks lurk and how they attack their prey.
