Druids of Lamar
As the sun begins to peak over a snowy ridge in the Rocky Mountains, a long, drawn-out cry rings out in Yellowstone's Lamar Valley. It is the call of a wolf. The call is returned by the rest of the pack. Within seconds, the wolf pack gathers together and takes off towards a herd of feeding elk. We watch in awe as a timeless drama unfolds. A young bull elk strays from the herd and falls behind. The lead wolf increases her speed and rapidly brings down the elk. This is the Druid wolf pack at work. After being exiled from Yellowstone National Park for more than sixty years, the ultimate canine predator has made a comeback in the heart of the American West. National Geographic Television and Film follows the fortunes of one wolf pack that struggled to survive for the first few years after being introduced into Yellowstone, but is now the largest gray wolf pack in the park. We join park biologist Doug Smith and a team of volunteers as they document the day-to-day activities of the pack. We meet the infamous 'Cinderella Wolf'. For years forced into a subservient role on the fringe of pack life - despite being one of its best hunters - she went on to become the alpha female of the pack, likely by killing her sister, the former alpha, to take the lead role. We also meet her mate, the alpha male. Once a mysterious stranger, he approached the Druids as a lone wolf and, surprisingly, was accepted by them. It's a story of mystery, murder, and intrigue as each wolf struggles to survive the wilderness of Yellowstone National Park, and the demands of running with the Wolf Pack.
