Wreck Hunters
It was the Golden Age of Greece (450-400BC) - the time of Socrates and Herodotus. The Parthenon was under construction and the Peloponnesian Wars had begun. Merchant ships plied the Mediterranean with tools, marble columns, games, artwork, food, musical instruments and the cargo of daily life. Archaeologist George Bass, director of the Institute of Nautical Archaeology at Texas A&M, has found an ancient shipwreck, bound from Athens, off the coast of western Turkey that may open a window on life in this classical period. This summer, Bass and his capable crew of graduate students, will camp on the rugged coastline and excavate the ship to reveal its secrets.
